Hey guys! Welcome to our ENGLISH BITES – The simplest, easiest and best way to practice your listening – the only one that is 100% created, executed and delivered from me to you!
This is Erika Belmonte speaking and I’ll be more than pleased to be here with you guys three times a week and I’m pretty sure we’ll have a great time together – because more than learning and improving your English, I also want you to have some fun through a very exclusive content.
Oh, and one more thing, in case you need the transcription of this English Bite, please go to www.clubedoingles.com/englishbites and look for the episode number 37.
How can I improve my speaking? One of the most common questions that I receive in my daily routine and that’s what I am going to talk about today. Well, one thing that I find very interesting is that I bet most of you already know the answer. It’s not easy but it’s simple: you can only improve your speaking skills by SPEAKING. I know it might sound a little obvious but guys, that’s it and that’s true.
I’m pretty sure you all practice your writing at least 3x a week, your listening, at least 3x a week using our English Bites, you learn more vocabulary and expressions through some videos, tv shows, presentations and movies, right? What about speaking? How often do you speak English per week?
And don’t try to convince me you have no one to speak with. Guys, before coming to the USA, I used to practice my speaking talking to myself. That might sound a little insane but it works a lot. I will never forget that. I used to spend hours in the huge traffic jam in São Paulo when I was going back home or even going to work early in the morning and besides listening to some music or a podcast, I used to talk to myself as well. Sometimes checking my tasks for the day or planning how it was going to be. If I was pissed at someone or something, I would say out loud (because I was alone in the car) and get it off my chest. Ok, I remember some people used to look at me like if I were crazy but you know, nowadays people don’t know if you’re talking to someone on the speaker so don’t worry!
There are other great options as well. You can check your community if there’s any group that usually meets, like once a week just to speak English (and don’t say that there’s nothing like this if you haven’t searched before ok? Every day there are new communities everywhere). Oh, and in case you don’t find one, build one. Why not? There’s an APP called MeetUp. Take a look if you can find anything like that where you live and if you can’t, start a conversation group once a week and choose a safe place like a public library or a mall.
Well, I also have another option but this one is not available yet. I don’t wanna spoil any surprise but I’m building a new platform where I’ll host more than tips and online English classes for intermediate – advanced students focused on pronunciation, structure and vocabulary. It will be a private and exclusive membership club where you guys will be able to practice your English and I’ll be monitoring each group at first. Don’t worry, you guys will be noticed first because you are already part of an exclusive service, so you’ll always have priority in everything I do and you guys can’t imagine how excited I am to launch this membership club, I would say, it’s like a dream come true where every little detail has been planned and executed by me. But this little baby is still being developed with so much care and love, so you’ll have to wait. LOL
Guys, another suggestion is: find someone (a friend, a relative, a coworker) who would like to practice speaking some time and just because I care, I’ll share a handy list with some topics to practice your conversation with someone else. Don’t you have anyone to do it? Ask yourself the questions out loud. Answer your questions, explain why, describe, get excited, get mad… But talk! And please, forget about YES AND NO. Go further, add your comments, perspectives, your opinion, your point of view, ok?
And let me know if any of these tips worked for you and which one did ok?
So, that’s it for today guys. I really hope you have enjoyed today’s episode. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your support and for listening to this English bite. If you have any suggestion, anything you’d like to learn from our English Bites, please let me know alright?
