Hey guys! Welcome to our ENGLISH BITES – The simplest, easiest and best way to practice your listening – the only one that is 100% created, executed and delivered from me to you – This is Erika Belmonte speaking and I’ll be more than pleased to be here with you guys three times a week and I’m pretty sure we’ll have a great time together – because more than learning and improving your English, I also want you to have some fun through a very exclusive content.
Oh…. One more thing, in case you need the transcription of this English Bite, please go to www.clubedoingles.com/englishbites and look for the episode number 31.
“I don’t have time” – How many times have we heard this sentence? How many time have we spoken that sentence to ourselves, friends and family? I know we have already talked about TIME MANAGEMENT and I didn’t come here today to talk about it. If you don’t remember or haven’t heard that yet, it’s the episode number 21.
Today I’d like to have a very friendly conversation, talk to you and share something that I really worry about: PRIORITIES.
I’ve lost count of how many times I said “I don’t have time” to my parents, to my husband and even to you guys. But thing’s changed and now I realized that it’s not a matter of lack of time… but a matter of priorities! We’ve always had and will always have tons of things to do in our daily routine: chores, school, work, kids, hobbies, family, appointments, unexpected situations, goals, dreams, deadlines… People calling you, texting you, emailing you…
And you know what’s funny? We’re always waiting “to have more time” to start, continue or even finish something that we consider important in our list but it’s always the same old story: year in, year out and that goal, task or plan/dream (I don’t know) is always waiting for its chance. The point is: we’ll never have time for that if we don’t set those things as a priority.
We gotta stop using this excuse, we gotta stop saying: I don’t have time. If it’s something unimportant to you, ok go ahead and say it, but not if it’s something that’s gonna change your life and make you feel better and actually be a better person somehow. Guys, we can accomplish ANYTHING WE WANT, if we are determined to do it. We can overcome ANY obstacle and find a path or method do it. Like I ALWAYS say (yep, that’s one of my mantras): WHERE THERE’S A WILL, THERE’S A WAY.
And again, have in mind when I come and share all these thoughts, feelings and actions with you all, I’m telling myself first because yeah, besides trying to avoid, let’s say, this bad habit, I still do it once in a while. And again, we gotta hold ourselves accountable to our goals and define what’s priority and what’s not a priority. Make a list! Compare it to what you’re doing in your daily routine. Is what you’re doing getting you closer to reaching your goal? Aren’t you navigating too much on the web looking for unimportant things? What about social media? It’s ok to check once a day for like, 10 or 15 minutes but not all day long every day. By the way that’s the double of the time of our English Bite or a podcast.
Again guys, that’s a very friendly reminder that the time is passing fast and if you don’t set your priorities, you’ll never have what you want. I could come here and talk about flowers, sunny days, beautiful people… But I rather have you a little mad at me maybe but changing your habits and reaching your dreams and goals, than just blabbing out here. I want you to practice your listening with a meaningful message because I care about you.
There is a proverb that says: “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable”- Lucius Seneca
So forget about yesterday, don’t punish yourself for things you haven’t done yet: start today! Set your priorities today! Avoid or delete useless tasks today! Learn how to say NO today!
You can do it and as soon as you make these changes in your life and start getting closer to what you want, I want you to let me know. Make me proud, guys!
