Yay, I’m back! I’m not feeling 100% yet but I’m getting better. We had Tuca last Wednesday. Did you guys like him? I’ve got some positive feedbacks from our last Bite so I’ll try to bring some different people every now and then alright?
Well, since I’ve got sick in the past few days, I’d like to take the opportunity to come and share some related vocabulary with you guys. So that’s what our English Bite going to be about: I’VE GOT A FLU: SYMPTOMS AND MEDICINES.
It started last Wednesday when I was sneezing like crazy. In case you don’t know “to sneeze” is like “ATCHIM” – So, I was sneezing a lot and I realized I was suffering from allergic rhinitis. To be really honest, I’ve always had allergic rhinitis in Brazil at least twice a year (specially in the winter) but for some reason and I don’t know why, I’ve never suffered from it here in the USA or even got sick. But during my last days in Brazil, I started sneezing like there was no tomorrow.
Two days later I was coughing a lot – again, to cough in case you don’t know is COF COF (yeah, as I told you I’m not 100% but I’ll survive kkkk). So that was me coughing… And be careful, COUGH is different from COFFEE. COFFEE is that hot beverage we drink in the morning alright? I’m talking about COUGH, not COFFEE.
So, as I was saying, I was coughing a lot and I also got a runny nose. My rhinitis turned into a flu. My body was aching as well so I started taking some medicines to get better as quick as possible but we all know that flu always spends some days with us – So, I started taking allergy relief pills (for the allergy), decongestant (for the flu) and a cough syrup.
On Monday I was feeling a little better but probably because the temperature was really low here in Iowa (around -20 degrees Celsius) I got sick again, had some chills and sweats, fever, sore throat… and that’s why I asked Tuca to help me with our last English Bite. And the worst thing about getting sick (in my opinion of course) is that these medicines make us drowsy and sleep all day long. You know, I’ve just got home, had so many things to do and I couldn’t do anything ‘cause I had to sleep…. I was forced to sleep ‘cause I wasn’t feeling like doing anything else.
Oh and there’s something else: when I got home on Monday, I decided to take a shower and suddenly I realized I had lost my sense of smell cause both shampoo and soap had no smell at all. And that was not the only one. I had also lost my sense of taste and that was the worst for me. It’s horrible to eat something that tastes like nothing. I could just feel the texture but not the flavor so I started drinking some tea made of ginger, lemon and honey to help recover my senses.
Thank God my senses were back this morning. And yeah, I woke up much better and hopefully I’ll be feeling 100% very very soon.
Oh, and I mentioned before I had a flu but I’d like to teach you the difference between a flu and a cold: A cold is a milder respiratory illness than the flu. While cold symptoms can make you feel bad for a few days, flu symptoms can make you feel quite ill for a few days to weeks. The flu can also result in serious health problems such as pneumonia and hospitalizations.
So guys, be careful and take care of yourselves alright? Even in a very warm temperature like it is in Brazil now we might get sick ok?
